This luggage is designed specifically for business travelers who need efficiency. The dedicated front-facing laptop compartment allows for quick access to your 15.6-inch device during security checkpoints, saving you time and hassle at the airport.

Beyond its business-friendly layout, the bag comes with bonus storage solutions including a dedicated shoe bag and a 10L clothes pouch. The silent spinner wheels and water-resistant fabric ensure that your gear remains protected and transport remains quiet during your journey.

The Travelpro Maxlite 5 is a lightweight powerhouse, weighing in at an impressively low 5.4 lbs. This makes it an ideal choice for travelers who want to maximize their luggage allowance without sacrificing durability.

Its stain-resistant, water-repellent coating ensures that your bag stays looking new, even after numerous trips. The adjustable PowerScope handle and 360-degree spinners provide consistent, fluid motion, making it a favorite among experienced frequent flyers who need a dependable, lightweight companion.

This 20-inch carry-on is perfect for travelers who want an organized suitcase right out of the box. The inclusion of a four-piece packing cube set allows you to sort your belongings neatly, while the expansion zipper offers a significant boost in packing capacity.

The design includes a padded laptop compartment, reinforcing its utility for tech-heavy travelers. With its reinforced corners and abrasion-resistant exterior, it stands up well to the inevitable knocks of travel, while the TSA lock ensures your belongings remain secure throughout your trip.

With a focus on organization, this carry-on features four included packing cubes, simplifying the way you manage your clothes and toiletries. The interior even includes a water-resistant section specifically for unwashed or damp items.

The exterior is constructed from tough polyester that resists wear, and the bag features a stylish bow decoration that makes identifying your luggage on the carousel a breeze. With smooth 360-degree spinner wheels and a secure TSA lock, it’s a great companion for 3-5 day trips.

This version of the Swissgear Sion offers the same proven durability as our top pick but in a versatile, professional dark grey. The sturdy shell and robust stitching are designed to withstand the stress of baggage handling and busy travel schedules.

Complete buying guide for Best Soft Side Luggage Carry On

Weight and Material Durability

Always look for high-denier polyester or ballistic fabrics. While lighter bags are easier to lift into overhead bins, ensure the material is abrasion-resistant enough to handle airport environments.

Wheel Quality

360-degree spinner wheels are standard for modern carry-ons, but the quality varies. Look for reinforced wheel housings to prevent cracks and high-quality bearings for a smoother glide on varied surfaces.

Organizational Features

Assess your packing style. If you travel for work, a front laptop pocket is essential. For leisure, internal packing cubes or wet-dry dividers help manage clothing effectively.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are soft side suitcases safer than hard side?

Both types are secure, but soft side luggage often features more external pockets which can be a risk for unsecured items. Always use TSA-approved locks on zippers to keep your main compartment secure.

Will these fit in standard airline overhead bins?

Most of the options listed here adhere to the standard 22x14x9-inch dimension requirement, making them compatible with major domestic and international carriers.

How do I clean my soft side carry-on?

Use a damp cloth with mild soap to wipe down the exterior. Avoid harsh chemicals or fully submerging the bag in water to protect the internal structure and lining.

Conclusion

Selecting the right soft side carry-on comes down to balancing weight, organization, and durability. Whether you prefer the lightweight efficiency of the Travelpro Maxlite 5 or the robust, expandable storage of the Swissgear Sion, investing in a high-quality suitcase will significantly improve your travel experience.

We recommend choosing a model that aligns with your most frequent travel scenarios—such as business-focused bags with laptop access or leisure-ready bags with versatile internal packing accessories—to ensure years of trouble-free service.
